Take your busy heart to the forest
41x61" mixed media on wood panel.
This piece incorporates plaster, texture, acrylic, oil stick, and real Honey Locust leaves from the tree in my backyard. As I was creating this piece outside, leavees kept floating down to land on the painting which felt just right, somehow. So, I decided to preserve the leaves and incorporate them into the painting. I love being a mixed media artist -- the possibilities are endless!
Here is a little snippet of the Mary Oliver poem that inspired the title of this piece:
What can I say that I have not said before?
So I'll say it again.
The leaf has a song in it.
Stone is the face of patience.
Inside the river there is an unfinishable story and you are somewhere in it
and it will never end until all ends.
Take your busy heart to the art museum
and the chamber of commerce
but take it also to the forest.
The song you heard singing in the leaf when yuo were a child is singing still.
